Waking up bright and early on day three after traveling over 1500 miles in the previous days was not easy. Having to pack up camp before sunrise was even harder. But with sleep in our eyes we packed up our car quickly and headed to the first viewpoint on the eastern side of the park (I threw our map away…sorry guys!). After a storm the night before and a thick cloud cover still in the sky we didn’t expect much of a sunrise, but since we had another long drive to Montana ahead we figured getting up early was the best way to go either way. Wrapped up in our blankets we waited at the platform and were blown away as the canyons began to come alive. The deep blue of the evening sky begin to turn pink and as the sun rose and the clouds began to clear a double rainbow appeared over the canyon. There were tears in my eyes watching this desert landscape come to life in front of us. Words cannot even begin to describe the beauty of these moments, as we look back on our trip this was hands down one of the most awe inspiring and beautiful moments.
